The story of Prophet Nuh is one filled with lessons of patience, courage, and unwavering trust in Allah. Chosen to guide his people back to the worship of Allah, Nuh dedicated himself to this mission even though his community had fallen into idol worship and forgotten the teachings of their ancestors.

His story teaches us that perseverance in doing what is right is a sign of strength, especially when facing challenges and rejection.

The Mission of Prophet Nuh

Prophet Nuh was sent by Allah to guide his people, who had strayed far from the worship of Allah. They were involved in idol worship and had turned away from the teachings of their ancestors. Nuh was chosen by Allah to bring them back to the right path, calling them to worship only Allah and abandon their false gods. For 950 years, Prophet Nuh patiently preached to his people, urging them to turn to Allah, but only a small group of people heeded his message. This part of the story teaches children the importance of patience and steadfastness in delivering a righteous message, even when faced with rejection and hardship.

The People Rejection

The People Rejection

Despite Nuh’s tireless efforts, the majority of his people mocked and rejected him, insisting on clinging to their idols and sinful ways. They ridiculed his warnings of divine punishment, refusing to believe that they would be held accountable for their actions. Prophet Nuh pleaded with them, explaining that Allah’s punishment would be severe if they did not change their ways, but their arrogance and pride blinded them to the truth. This part of the story highlights the consequences of arrogance and disbelief, showing children the importance of humility and accepting guidance.

The Building of the Ark

When the people refused to repent, Allah instructed Prophet Nuh to build a massive ark. Although Nuh did not live near a body of water, he followed Allah’s command with unwavering faith. As he and his followers worked on the ark, the people mocked him even more, asking how a boat would save them in the middle of the land.

“So he began to build the Ark, and whenever some of the chiefs of his people passed by, they mocked him. He said, “If you laugh at us, we will ˹soon˺ laugh at you similarly”

(Hud 38)

Prophet Nuh remained patient, trusting in Allah’s plan, and continued his work. This teaches children the importance of obedience to Allah, even when others may not understand or support their actions, and the need to have faith in Allah’s wisdom.

The Great Flood

The Great Flood

When the ark was completed, Allah commanded Nuh to bring aboard his followers, a pair of every species of animals, and his family, except for those who disbelieved. Then, Allah unleashed the great flood, and the waters rose from the earth and poured down from the skies.

“And when Our command came and the oven burst ˹with water˺,1 We said ˹to Noah˺, “Take into the Ark a pair from every species along with your family—except those against whom the decree ˹to drown˺ has already been passed—and those who believe.” But none believed with him except for a few”

(Hud 40)

The disbelievers, including Nuh’s own son, were swept away by the flood, despite Nuh’s desperate pleas for them to believe. The flood cleansed the earth of those who had rejected Allah’s message, and only those on the ark were saved. This part of the story shows the consequences of ignoring divine guidance and teaches children about the importance of loyalty to Allah above all else.

A New Beginning After the Floodwaters

After the Floodwaters

After the floodwaters receded, the ark rested on Mount Judi, and Nuh and his followers were given a new beginning on earth.

“And it was said, “O earth! Swallow up your water. And O  sky! Withhold ˹your rain˺.” The floodwater receded and the decree was carried out. The Ark rested on Mount Judi, and it was said, “Away with the wrongdoing people!” ”

(Hud 44)

They were commanded to establish their lives in worship and gratitude to Allah.  The Prophet Nuh story concludes with a reminder of Allah’s mercy and justice. It demonstrates that while Allah is patient and forgiving, those who persist in arrogance and disbelief will face the consequences. For children, this story emphasizes the importance of trusting Allah, being grateful for His guidance, and always striving to live in obedience to His commands.

Conclusion

The story of Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him) reflects Allah’s compassion and mercy, reminding us that those who are loyal and patient will find peace and protection. Nuh’s commitment to his mission, despite the many trials he faced, shows us the importance of trusting in Allah’s plan. For young hearts, this story encourages a sense of loyalty to Allah, a love of patience, and the knowledge that following His guidance brings blessings.
